Apart from the description given, rats have thicker tails than mice. An average full grown mouse grows to half the size of an average full grown rat.

Predominant difference is size, appearance and other behavioral factors.
Rats are medium sized rodents, bigger in size than mice, and often kill and eat mice (who are afraid of rats). Both species are rodents.
Mice tend to have smaller heads and larger ears relative to the size of the head as compared with rats. The difference between the two can also been determined by the size of their respective feces.
Mice have an average lifespan of 9 to 12 months; while rats have a much longer lifespan.
