Niall is correct. I will note, however, that judges are often referred to as "the court." If a lawyer says "the court decided against my client" that really means the judge decided against him.

In a legal sense, the judge is the person that decides on the sentence. The court is the room in which the trial takes place (also called a courtroom), or the people inside the courtroom.
