“How many” is used with count nouns (c исчисляемыми существительными, такими как люди, вилки, столы, деревья): - How many students are there in each class? - How many people are you expecting? “How much” is used with uncountable nouns (с неисчисляемыми существительными, такими как молоко, вода, деньги в общем смысле): - How much sugar do you take in your coffee? - How much money do you want for this?

The same as Lezelda answered, but you have to use How much in asking about money, although it is countable (at least in my country). e.g. How much did you pay for your car? Countable
