what does "adversarial" mean?
Clayman's (1992) argument is that the use of footing shifts enables the interviewer to fulfill two professional tasks simultaneously: to be adversarial, while remaining formally neutral.

If you're adversarial, you're an adversary, which is another word for "Enemy" or "Opponent".
