In South Africa we use Lawyer and Attorney too. Solicitor is more commonly used in the UK. In SA we also have an Advocate who would instruct the Lawyer/Attorney.

The answer varies between English speaking countries and sometimes even inside different states of one country.
Attorney is a term used more in the US than in other English speaking countries.
Lawyer - someone trained in the law. In Australia, someone who is licensed to practice law.
Solicitor - A lawyer who works directly with clients, conducting meetings with them, collecting statements, drawing up wills and other documents. Solicitors rarely appear in courtrooms.
Barrister - A lawyer who is typically advised by a solicitor but argues the case in a courtroom. Typically, barrister demand higher fees than a solicitor.
In some jurisdictions, lawyers may be both solicitor and barrister but typically they differ.
In Australia, if you used the term attorney, you would be referring to a solicitor.
That may not be the case in America.
