"einen" is either used as an indefinite article or as an indefinite pronoun. That means:
"Ich habe einen Termin um 16 Uhr." --> used as an indefinite article for the accusative of the masculine noun "Termin, der Termin".
"Wollen Sie drei Plätze reservieren?Nein, danke, nur einen." --> masculine accusative of indefinite pronoun "one" (ein Platz, der Platz).

Hi Sun Xiao ,
"Einen" is the accusative indefinite article equivalent to the definite article "DER"
for example : der Satz .
Der Satz ist kurz . Ein Satz ist kurz
Er schreibt den Satz . Er schreibt einen Satz .
In the first sentences "ein" is used in its indefinite nomminativ form .
In the second sentences ,the word "Satz" has taken the accusative form ,thus its article in its indefinite form becomes "einen " .
