How is 'classes' different from 'kinds' in these examples?

'Kinds' is similar to 'types' or 'sorts' - it's very general, and it just means that the things are different.
'Classes' is similar to 'categories' - it's more formal and scientific. Drugs, for example, are formally 'classified' according to their strength and effect - Class A, Class B etc.
