Why "poco a poco" instead of "poco por poco" to say little by little. A = to y por = by ?

Because sometimes you can´t translate word by word from one language to another, and get the same meaning.

-By, puede ser traducido como -por o -a,
Ejemplo:
1. "Al lado".
Ejemplo: He is by your side. Él está a tu lado.
.Para indicar quién realiza la acción en una oración pasiva
Ejemplo:
-This house was built by my uncle. Esta casa fue construida por mi tío. Nota: Aquí traducimos "by" por "por".
Para dar instrucciones:
-You can do it by pressing the key "A" Puedes hacerlo presionando la tecla "A".
