I'm reading about Winter X games and since I am not very aware of these kind of extreme sports, I don't understand what Bertoni managed to do from the second try?

Since the Superpipe, which is a giant halfpipe made out of snow, was so big the riders should be able to pull of difficult tricks, and they did. On Bertoni's second run he upset the riders and took first place.
