Tell me if the following verbs are the same: scratch and claw. How can I use them? Examples please.

"To claw" is more violent than "to scratch." A scratch can be on accident, but to claw something is on purpose. Also, you "scratch" things, but "claw at" things.
Ex. "My cat scratched me, but it did not hurt a lot.."
Ex. "The lion clawed at him, so he needed to go to the hospital."
