Paradise is an ancient greek word, in greek 'par'adisos' (παράδεισος). The only literal translation of the meaning of the word i ever found is 'beyond, opposite to the west' and is a synonym to 'garden'. I cannot verify myself the validity of the above translation. The oldest root i know of this word dates back to the year 80 b.C.
