Should we create more socially mixed residential areas, where rich people live next to poorer people, instead of in separate communities? This is a question that instigates debate by scholars and responsible for elaborating urban policies. Given the existence of diverse social classes, it becomes necessary to establish a way of tackling these differences in terms of urban planning. However, which model of living areas would reveal more beneficial to the citizens? In my opinion, socially mixed residential areas would bring more positive results. Reports show that many cities around the world have adopted this proposal. Paris and some cities in China are examples with the promise of good outcomes. Low-income employees could avoid long commutes as they would live near their workplace. The same resources and facilities would be available for all residents in the neighbourhood. This model would promote integration and connection between communities.
