housekeeper
I am confused about the meanings of maid and housekeeper. Maybe because they refer to different types of jobs in Britian and The USA ?
What I understand is-
maid is British and housekeeper is Am. Añthough both take care of the house ( clean , iron , wash...)
And another point is hotels: what do you call the cleaner person ?
In Spanish we say: empleada de hogar or asistenta for houses . At hotels we say : camarera de piso
Thanks

I know that at a hotel, a maid would work in the housekeeping department. The maid is a person, but housekeeping is the job. Many native speakers use these words interchangeably; they mean the same thing to many people.
