Pupil - person who is being taught especially in child in a school while student is considered as more older one.

Hi Dora
A pupil is someone who is being taught; a student may be this too, but can also be just someone who is studying, not being taught by someone. I don't think age has very much to do with it, except that when you are young you are more likely to be taught than simply studying.
