What preposition should I use here? If I want to say, for example, the word 'quibble' can be used [to describe] a small argument or fight, can I use on, as in 'quibble can be used on a small argument or fight'? Or 'quibble can be used for a small argument or fight'?If I want to express that xxx(some word) can be used [to describe] a small argument or fight, should I say 'xxx can be used [on] a small argument or fight'? Or 'xxx can be used [for] a small argument or fight'?

You'd say " [some word] can be used *for* a small argument or fight.

Exactly ! It is about small things and trivialities . You usually say quibble about something . - I am paying the bill. - No, I certainly will. - Let's not quibble about such a trivial matter !
