what is the difference between "beside" and besides" in the following sentence?
"Besides" OR "Beside" television, theater is a kind of medium that has the capacity to affect people.

'Beside' and 'besides' are two completely different words.
'Beside' means 'next to'. It it indicates position, as in 'The table is beside the bed.'
'Besides' means 'apart from' or 'in addition to'. It is used to add information.
