For example: - I'd like to know if this sentence is correct or not. - I'd like to know whether this sentence is correct or not. Which one is correct? Should I avoid using the word 'If' when I add 'or not' at the end of a sentence? Example #2: - I'd like to know if A is correct or B. - I'd like to know whether A is correct or B. 1. Both are correct. You can use either 'if' or 'whether' in this sentence, and the meaning is the same. There is no need to avoid using 'if'. The only time you have to use 'whether' is if the sentence is ordered like this: 'I'd like to know whether or not this sentence is correct'. If the phrase 'or not' comes directly after the conjunction, you cannot use 'if'. 2. Neither order is natural. The most usual phrasing would be 'I'd like to know whether A or B is correct'. or 'I'd like to know which one is correct - A or B.'

Example 1: They are both correct Your use of if was fine there. You definitely need it in that case. You can also simply say, "Is this sentence good or not?" Example 2: They are both worded in the same awkward way: I'd like to know if A or B is correct. I'd like to know whether A or B is correct.
