What are the differences among consist of, comprise and compose, thank you. What are the differences among consist of, comprise and compose, thank you. We can say a,b and c constitute d. How can we express this meaning with consist of, comprise and compose? I know consist of can not be in a passive form, so we can say d consists of a,b and c, but not d is consisted of a, b and c. How about comprise and compose? Thank you very much.

Here are some ideas: "My family consists of / is composed of my mother, father, and sister." "My sister, mother, and father make up my family". (or "constitute" - formal only) "The book comprises 9 chapters" "Writers compose essays and letters, but not books. Writers write books." "Musicians compose original music such as symphonies and rock songs."
