My friends and I tried translating a slogan in a bank. We thought the original English translation was weird, so we tried translating individually. Please help check our translations and mark it ( Provised 10 is perfect and you were the bank's manager). Perhaps it would be confusing without knowing the Chinese meaning, but I think you can get the overall meaning by the following translations. The original English translation in the bank: Through non this bank formal channels for purchase ono this bank allow sales of financial products caused by the risk shall be borne by the customer. Mark: The client should assume the risk by yourself from buying financial products which are not permitted by this bank through unofficial way. Helen: Potential risks are attributable to clients themselves who buy unauthorised financial products through channels not approved by our bank. Chloe: The client who purchases financial products which are not permitted selling by this bank from informal channels should bear all the consequences.

Good grief, Chloe - your bank needs a new translator.. All three of the attempts above (from you and your friends) are much better than the bank's attempt and each has some good points about it, but none are actually entirely correct. In Mark's sentence, "from buying financial products which are not permitted by this bank," is good English. In Helen's sentence, "buy unauthorized financial products through channels not authorized by our bank,," is also very good. And in your sentence, both the start "The client who purchases financial products which are not permitted," is good as is "from informal channels should bear all the consequences." But you went wrong in the middle. To judge from the replies that the three of you have posted here, my best guess as to what the translation should be is: "Any unofficial products that are bought without permission from this bank, are bought at the buyer's own risk."

The bank's translation is impossible to understand. Please help me understand the situation. In the United States, many banks are like mine. My bank provides very safe, highly regulated, government insured bank accounts. In the bank building, the are bank offices. There is also an office that says "Infinex Investments." In that office, an advisor sells typical investment products such as mutual funds. There's a sign. I don't have the exact words on the sign but it says something like this: "Investment and insurance products and services are offered through INFINEX INVESTMENTS, INC. Infinex and the bank are not affiliated. Products and services made available through Infinex are not insured by the FDIC or any other agency of the United States and are not deposits or obligations of nor guaranteed or insured by any bank or bank affiliate. These products are subject to investment risk, including the possible loss of value." Is that the situation in your bank? A single physical building contains two legally separate entities, a bank and a separate investment company? Perhaps your sign means: "Investment products sold here are not official bank products, and all risk is borne by the customer."

The bank's translation is unintelligible. Also the other translations are unintelligible. What in the world does all this nonsense mean? I haven't a clue.
