ground/the ground Rice is an uncountable noun, so talking in general I say: "rice is only grown at a certain latitude", ("rice" without article). Does the word "ground" follow the normal rules when it's an uncountable noun? Have I to say (talking in general) "ground is always frozen at a certain latitude" or "THE ground is always frozen at a certain latitude"?

It's "the ground" because we consider the surface of the earth as a unique thing, in everyday parlance.
