Reading in Japanese for beginners? Can anyone recommend a resource for beginners that want to learn to read and write at a basic level in Japanese? I'm kinda fed up with my class and reading is one of my favorite ways to learn. I'm even open to children's books!

Hi Louis I just recently found out that NHK News Easy (http://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/easy/) is a great place to read articles. It will definitely help you learn elementary/middle school level kanji and they provide furigana. Good luck studying :)

Hi I am Kabuto. I am Japanse.. How about Japanese old tales? They are for children so it is not so difficult for even beginners of Japanese. We learn (or enjoy) it in kindergarten, therefore it is like a common knowledge for us. Here is the example of them; Momotarou, KachiKachi yama, Shitakiri Suzume I hope it helps you. Kabuto

Hello, Louis-san, How about the book called "みんなの日本語初級I 第2版 初級で読めるトピック25"? "Syokyu de yomeru topic 25 from Minna no Nihongo beginner 1 second edition" I think you can find this book from Amazon.com. This book's sentense consists of only basic Japanese grammar. So I think this book is helpful.
