Perhaps it was something like "Wir machen Anfang Juni Ferien"? That would mean "We're going on holiday at the beginning of June".
"our holiday begins" = "unsere Ferien fangen an"

make=machen. In german you say "We are making holidays". But the sentence "Wir machen Anfang Ferien" ist wrong.
