What does "throwing the party" mean, please? Hi everyone, Could you tell me the meaning of "throwing the party" in this sentence below? Is there a similar expression to it? - Larry, who is a friend of mine, was throwing the party. Please, can you give another examples with the word " throwing " ? Thank you for your help.

throw a ball = toss throw a fit/temper tantrum = become angry throw up = vomit be thrown=confused a throw blanket = a small blanket throw into jail/prison = put throw on/off some clothes throw in the towel = give up throw out/away the garbage

Oh I just want to add, if you want to use another word for 'throwing' in your sentance, 'giving' or 'having' is a good choice. giving a party or having a party.

Neal is right. "to throw a party" is just another way to say 'have a party.' The person saying the expression is usally going to be the party's host.
