Deutsch: What is the difference between 'Schauspieler' und 'Darsteller'? Hello all, When I was studying, I had learned that 'Schauspieler' meant 'actor.' However, when I was watching a behind the scenes video of the König der Löwen, the child actors were called 'Kinderdarstellar.' My questions is: Are there only certain scenarios where one word is more appropriate to use than the other? Is 'Darstellar' only used for children? Is 'Schauspieler' only used for actors doing Shakespeare and other classic works? Any input would be appreciated! Here is the video: "König der Löwen"-Musical: Die perfekte Illusion | Wie geht das? | NDR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoRSJg5ymiM&index=1&list=PLLl5p4J0wrIAGER1DG3AU_JJKT8QPNJEi - Meagan

'Schauspieler' is rather a term for a profession/job. A 'Darsteller' doesn't necessary need to be a 'Schauspieler'. For example a play in primary school. You could call the children who are playing their roles 'Darsteller'...but they are not really 'Schauspieler' yet. But the other way around it works better. Let's say you've watched a movie and in the credits you may read 'Darsteller'. Ufff...not easy to explain ^^* I hope you got an idea of what the difference is.
