as...as
''He is as good a cook as his wife is.'' I've just come across this sentence and I could not understand it very well. I learned that the ''as...as'' construction consists of 'as + adjective + as', for example: 'I'm not as smart as he is''. So, why does the clause construction change in the sentence above? Is it because of the indefinite article 'a'? Could you guys give me more examples similar to the sentence above? Thanks in advance.

as good _________ as - you can put a skill or a job in the middle as well:
Examples:
He is as good ...a futbol player... as his brother is
He is as good ...a coach ...as his father is
He is as good ...a talker ...as his father is
He is as good ...at watching tv ...as his brother is
He is as good ...at playing cards ...as his brother is

btw Luiz 'a cooker' isn't a person - it's a kitchen appliance, another word for a stove/oven combination!
What you wanted to say was
''He is as good a cook as his wife is.''
Apart from that, your sentence is fine. This is the pattern:
AS + adjective + A + noun + AS......
