Difference between から and より (from) I have seen the word より (more than...) can be translated as "from" too, like から. For example: おじが神戸こうべよりひょっこりやってきた = My uncle blew in from Kobe. 1. What's the difference between より and から in this case? 2. It's correct to say "日本より来ました" instead "日本から来ました" ? Thanks.

Yes, both are correct. より strikes me as a more formal way than から.

To answer your question it is best to say 「日本から来ました」から in a sentence would mean you came from and より would indicate a type of comparison for example: 「日本よりアメリカが好きです。」 Meaning you like America more than japan. Does that make sense at all? I’m japanese so it’s hard to explain then to understand.
