''We thank thee for thy Goodness...'' "O God my Lord, I now begin, O help me and I'll leave my sin." "For I repentant now shall be, from evil I will turn to thee." "None ever shall destroy my faith, nor do I mind what Satan saith." "O God my Lord, I now begin, O help me and I'll leave my sin." "For I repentant now shall be, from evil I will turn to thee." "None ever shall destroy my faith, nor do I mind what Satan saith." "O God my Lord, I now begin, O help me and I'll leave my sin." What does ''repentant'' mean in this prayer? What is the meaning of the expression ''...turn to thee''?

Repentant is just to be sorry for something. We still say „repent“ of something. But even saying repent sounds archaic today. To turn to thee is just „I‘m following you now“. Turning to you (to follow and obey)

Hello, Luiz! "Repentant' means 'repenting,' basically. The word order of this poem is tricky - a more simple way of writing it is "for I will now be repentant" or "for I will now repent." As for the second part, the idea is that he stands in the middle - evil stands on one side, and God stands on the other, and he is turning to evil right now. He is saying he will turn to God instead - devote his life to God instead of evil. I hope this helped!
