속 vs. 내부?
What is the difference between these two words? Could you please use each in an example sentence?
Thank you!

- 속 = inside, internal part (<-> 겉, outside, external part), Also means what a person think in their heart.
- 안 = inside, interior (<-> 밖, outside, exterior). Not used to refer to people think or feel inside.
- 내부 = 안 or 속 in formal contexts (<-> 외부), for something big or complex, as in news reports, science, etc.
(내 = hanja character for 안, 외 = 밖. 부 =part or department. 속, 겉, 안, 밖 are native Korean words)
Generally, 속 is used if the inside is dense or not easily accessible (열매의 속, 산속, 바닷속), and 안 if it's spacious or accessible (집 안, 학교 안), but this distinction is not foolproof (몸속 = 몸 안). 내부 can mean either of the two but is probably closer to 안 (학교 내부 = 학교 안, 내부 공사).
e.g.
- 사람들은 겉 다르고 속 다르다 = People's facade and what they really feel aren't the same.
- 사과가 겉은 깨끗한데 속은 썩었다 = This apple looks fine from the outside but is rotten inside.
- 속상하다 = 속이 상하다 = be upset or riled (lit. hurt/injured on the inside). 속이 탄다 (burning inside => be anxious), X의 속을 모르겠다 (Can't figure out what X is thinking).
- 이 건물은 밖도 안도 멋지다 = This building is wonderful from the outside and the inside.
- 학교 안팎을 단장하는 작업이 진행 중이다 = Work is under way to upgrade the appearance of the school in and out (안팎 = 안 과 밖).
- 학교 내부와 외부를 단장하는 작업이 진행 중이다.
- 내부자 = insider. 내부 구조 = inner structure. 내부 감사 = internal audit. 내부의 적 = enemy within.
