While I like both literature and linguistics, I would choose linguistics. This is because I prefer to study grammar and verbs, how language changes over time and how people acquire languages. Literature is interesting as well, but I love grammar much more!

I'd join Michelle. In my opinion linguistics allows you to really look into the essence of a language and when you've already figured it out it's very easy to notice what changes it's undergone if you're interested to know.
