For 7 years old and below:
Aesop's Fables (Aesop) - short, simple, with lessons
Puffin Classics - Penguin Classics for children https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/series/DT1/puffin-classics (I love these!!)
The Giving Tree (Shel Silverstein) - really short poetry, can be read in 3 mins.
Berenstain Bears (Stan and Jan Berenstein) - relatable stories for children! I personally enjoyed this when I was a child

For ages 8 and above:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Jeff Kinney)
A Series of Unfortunate Events (Daniel Handler)
The LIttle Prince (Antoine De Saint-Exupery)
Illustrated books by Jimmy Liao (Taiwanese author and illustrator)
