What does 'non plus' mean in this sentence? This is excerpted from the article S’il n’y avait plus d’électricité… by Bernard Tissot, member of the French Academy of Sciences: ----------------- On ne peut plus se passer d’électricité et on en consomme beaucoup pour notre vie courante. Si vous imaginez quelqu’un qui habite dans une tour au bord de la Seine et qui prend l’ascenseur le matin, plus d’électricité, plus d’ascenseur. Et pour arriver à son travail, à La Défense, plus de métro et plus d’ascenseur non plus pour aller travailler au 35e étage. ------------------- The last sentence confused me: 'plus de métro et plus d’ascenseur non plus pour aller travailler au 35e étage'. What is the meaning of 'non plus pour aller travailler au 35e étage'' here? I think 'non plus' is used in negative phrase, and then why is it used here? Could anyone please kindly help me understand it?

Hi Daiyu. This is used in a negative sentence in order to put emphasis on the negation : ".. no metro and no lift either ..". Regards.

Non plus is used to say “aussi” but in a negative way, for example : You say “J’aime le football.” I say: “moi aussi” but if you say “je n’aime pas le foot” I should say “moi non plus” , I think this is the easiest way to explain it, so you can imagine that in any other sentence where you need to say “either” you can use “non plus” .
