Accent Does anyone know which accent in brazilian portuguese is the most widely used? There are so many different accents I am hearing when learning that it gets confusing, and i want to be able to be understood by the majority of people i talk to. For example most people learning english are taught a neutral american accent. Is there an equivalent in brazil?

Curiosity: Brazilian actors need speech therapy to lose their regional accent and speak more neutral.

I agree when people say carioca and paulista accent are widespread, but they are NOT neutral in any aspect. I can easily recognise where people came from when they are speaking with me for the first time. Every city will have its specific accent and, in fact, it doesn't matter for being understood. If you learn brazilian portuguese with carioca accent, for example, we will understand you, but definetivelly know your teacher is from Rio de Janeiro. Just that. One thing I can say to you, if you learn portuguese with a brasiliense (people from Brasília, the capital) people will understand you perfectly and will not detect where your accent is from. It is not neutral, but undetactable, if you know what I mean.

I I think the Paulista ( São Paulo ) one, but here it doesnt really matter. People will try to understand you no matter how, even with an strong accent of your 'mother tongue'

Não acho que são Paulo seja o sotaque mais neutro. Lá eles puxam a letra "r". Creio que o mais neutro seria o sotaque do capixaba!
