Do you like apples or oranges? / You like apples or oranges?
Dear Gurus,
Please help me with the following.
Situation A: Say, their is a dish on the table with apples (As) and oranges (Os) on it. And two people are sitting by the table: my friend and me. I have no idea what does my friend like As and Os / just As / just Os / dislike both. May I ask (and he answer) in such a case:
Do you like apples or oranges? - I like both. / I like apples but don't like oranges. / I don't like neither apples nor oranges.
Situation B: The same table, fruit and people. I do know that me friend does like As or Os (I just forgot - which fruit he likes). May I ask (and he answer) in such a case:
1. What do you like best? Apples or oranges? - I like apples.
or
2. You like apples or oranges? - I like apples.
Thank you!

Do you like apples or oranges? You can ask this in a few ways. You can say 'or', 'and' or 'and/or'. All are OK.
I don't like neither apples nor oranges. <- this is incorrect. It's a double negative. "I don't like apples or oranges."
What do you like best? Apples or oranges? - I like apples. <- that's OK, but it's better to ask 'which' if there is a choice. You also don't need "best".
Do you like apples or oranges? <- you need a 'Do' in front.

Situation A. The question is clear and the first answer is good too. However the second answer involves repetition when u say I like apples but don’t like oranges, I would rather say “ I like apples but not oranges”. The last answer to me sounds like a double negative answer, so I would rather say “I like neither” instead of “I don’t like neither apples or oranges”.
Situation B. The last sentence is not a question. It’s just a statement (you like apples or oranges) although I inserted a question mark. Rather, it should be “do you like apples or oranges?”.
The best question to ask in both situations would be “Do you like apples or oranges?”
