'Mice' is just the plural of 'mouse'. Mickey Mouse is a mouse; Mickey and Minnie are mice.
A rat and a mouse are two different animals. Here are a few differences:
Mice are smaller ( up to 20cm) and have a triangular snout, long whiskers, large ears and a hairy tail.
Rats are larger (can be over 40cm) and have a blunt snout, small ears and a scaly tail.

"Mouse and mice are the same thing - mouse is the singular noun , mice is the plural noun. This is an irregular plural form in English. Mice and rats are both rodents, but rats are bigger in size. (rat - singular / rats - plural)"
