Scarcely studied . Does it make sense ?
This is in the beginning of an abstract :
This research aims to analyze a non verbal discourse marker of modality which has been scarcely studied and which expresses obligation.

Yes, it makes sense. "Scarcely studied" means hardly or almost not studied.
