"Heebie Jeebies" is similar to "bad vibes"...you aren't necessarily worried like with anxiety, more disturbed, creeped out or uncomfortable.

You know that moment when you sort of have an involuntary fluttery feeling when something creeps you out? For example, your reaction when you see a needle going in an arm, or the feeling you get when you see a circus side show act pull a worm from his nose out from his throat and starts flossing his tonsils with it? Yeah, that sudden crawly feeling that makes your shoulders or head shake or your hands get a little spazzy for a moment is having the "heebie jeebies". Anxiety is when you are feeling ill at ease or nervous because you have to do something you're uncomfortable with. You might feel the sweats or nausea, and start pacing. This may last for several minutes or even hours, depending on how often you are faced with uncomfortable situations. Anxiety is a disorder, and sometimes affect people doing things that most people have no problem doing. An example of that is some people feel anxiety when they have to leave their house. Some people get anxious when they haven't left the house yet, but know they will have to later that day. When someone is anxious, the mere thought of doing something they don't like bothers them immensely. So yes, they're different. Many people can feel the heebie-jeebies from gross things, but not everyone has anxiety.

I have always heard it as "heebie-jeebies," with the "heebie" first, no "s" after "heebie," and hyphenated. It is not standard English. It's slang. It suggests fear rather than anxiety, particularly fear of something unknown or supernatural. It is the sensation that something bad is going to happen, but you don't know what. It is similar to "creepy." It is almost a physical sensation. It means about the same thing as "it made shivers run down my spine." So, if you are in an amusement park "dark ride," like the Haunted Mansion at Disney, afraid that something might suddenly jump out at you, you might get "the heebie-jeebies." If you were on a rollercoaster on the first slow pull up to the top, the sensation you feel would just be fear or anxiety, but not "the heebie-jeebies." Garden slugs, (non-venomous) snakes, and cockroaches aren't dangerous, but they give some people "the heebie-jeebies." Grizzly bears, sharks, and lions are dangerous, and cause fear, but they don't give people "the heebie-jeebies."
