Hello Vivien, The question is already rhetorical or a bit nonsensical or maybe a flirtatious gesture. In all cases your answer got to be funny or sarcastic as in: " Cute happens, was not intended " or " Did it offend you , sorry ,let's see what we can do about it " "That is pretty cute of you " "Don't get cute with me" etc...

Who actually says that you are cute?!?!

Ask things like "I know right.." "Ask God" "Why are you soo ugly?"

LOL, well you can ask him/her this: "Please define 'cute'." If you think his/her definition is reasonable, say "Thanks!" Otherwise, just throw him/her a "Try harder, dude" :P
