"The gull sees faithest who flies highest" what this expression means? I am not sure about the meaning, but I think it is something like: "The gulls do not pay attention or ignores who flies very high" In other words, a gull wants all gulls to be identical. "The gull sees farthest who flies highest"Thank you Claire. I do know the metaphoric meaning because of its context. What I do not know is why. I would like to understand it in a more literal way for that. Perhaps, the word “farthest” is related in this example, as something unique, rare, hard to achieve or great. Thank you Peachey.

I'll rearrange the sentence for you: "The gull who flies highest sees farthest". The meaning hasn't changed. So the higher you fly, the better you can see things far away. Stepping out of the crowd and pushing yourself towards better things will give you a better perspective on your life and the things around you (including the flock of gulls below you).

Hi this quote is from Jonathan Livingstone Seagull. The music is beautiful. * Jonathan Seagull discovered that boredom and fear and anger are the reasons that a gull’s life is so short, and with these gone from his thoughts, he lived a long fine life indeed. "The gull sees farthest who flies highest." This means don’t believe what your eyes are telling you. All they show is limitation. Look with your understanding. Strive for the highest.

'The gull sees furthest that flies highest' means that if you push yourself to go beyond the crowd you will get more, live a richer life.
