What is the difference between 主管 and 经理
I heard that 主管 is a first level manager and 经理 second level or higher, but would like to find out if these terms have different meanings in different regions, or perhaps different industries.

generally speaking, 经理 manage all the sections. there are sevaral sections in a company. There is a 主管 in each section. In oral Chinese ,主管 means a manager. on formal occasion we usually call a manager as 经理。

主管 is supervisor
经理 is manager
supervisor need report to manager.

Semanticlly, the meaning of 主管 and 经理 are almost the same. In some company the position of 主管 is higher than 经理, while in some other companies 经理 is higher, and also there're some companies the two positions are in the same level.

主管:无论在那个部门只要是leader,都是主管。
经理:经理是一种职称,代表一定的管理层级。是主管的一种。

If B need to report to A, then A is B' s 主管.
经理 may be just a title, may be a 主管 who in charger of a department.
