Which preposition is correct in the cases above: to or than?

"To" is correct. We use "than" with other comparative words like "rather" or "better"; for example:
He prefers driving to taking the bus.
He would rather drive than take the bus.
He likes driving better than taking the bus.

You cannot use "than" with "prefer"! It is wrong!
I prefer A to B. This is the correct way.

1. I prefer tea to coffee.
2. I prefer to make my own food than buy it from a restaurant.
