boyfriend vs girlfriend........?
I'm studying translation, from Arabic into English and vice versa. I have a very big problem with the two words ( boyfriend and girlfriend ) I haven't found equivalents for them in Arabic, because they are not found in Arabic culture.
So I watched movies alot, and I thought that the two words meant ( husband and wife ), if not, I'll be thankful to have them, and can you give me the diferences between ( boyfriend × husband ) and ( girlfriend × wife )?

If a man and woman are romantically involved but not married, they are boyfriend and girlfriend. If they are married, they are husband and wife. If they are gay, they are boyfriend and boyfriend or girlfriend and girlfriend.
If they are not romantically involved, but just friends, then you should say "male friend" or "female friend" to make this clear... however, many women still say "my girlfriend" to describe a friend who is female but not their romantic partner.

If you are a boy:
girlfriend = a girl you are having sex with and seeing regularly
If you are a girl:
boyfriend = a boy you are having sex with and seeing regularly
It's not that hard to imagine!

the equivalent i know of boyfriend in shami 3amiyeh is probably
