What is the difference between "also" and "damit" in German? :/ Danke!:)

"also" = adverb = a conclusion introductory word
English: therefore, anyway, thus
"damit" = conjunction
English:therewith, thereby, in order that, with it, so that ...

I was wondering what the question was until I looked them up, and I'm still not sure - you'd translate both into "so" or "so that", right?
"also" is used when something is defined further, or may even denote an implication.
Gute Beispielsätze, also Sätze mit beispielhaftem Aufbau, sind schwer zu finden.
Ich habe verschlafen, also fahre ich mit dem Auto zur Arbeit.
"damit" is used to give a definite, practical purpose.
Ich fahre mit dem Auto, damit ich schneller bei der Arbeit bin.
Damit ich nicht mehr verschlafe, stelle ich den Wecker jetzt früher.
(I'm just a native speaker not a teacher or even an expert ;) )
