Hi, Alex. I’d suggest “try” instead of “probe.” We could also use a conditional “would” here: I would try sewing, but I realize I’m afraid of needles.

I explored a new hobby because I like new experiences. I tried sewing, but then I realized that I am afraid of needles. Another thing I'd like to say is that since I always try hard, I do well in high school. But I am also doing well thanks to the help of my friends and classmates.
