Awethu Hope Tshengu

My experience with Awethu continues to be outstanding. She has an advanced understanding of many languages that include English, Xhosa, Zulu and Afrikaans, and it shows in her ability to explain grammar, use and understand slang as well as formal language. As a Native English speaker myself, I am impressed of how well she is able to explain things in regards to the Xhosa culture and language and relate those things to an English speaker. She is also very understanding of the challenges that I face while trying to learn a second language, and that means a lot to someone who has never spoken a second language. I am very much looking forward to continuing to my language studies with Awethu.

Awethu has such a deep understanding of languages and it shows through her teaching and teaching style. She tries to relate the content to your native language and always makes examples on how to use different concepts. She is passionate about helping you understand the language and fluently speak it with the right pronunciation and context.

Awethu is a very knowledgeable language teacher. Within my current Xhosa language goals we are preparing for an extended learning journey and Awethu is able to dive deep into the grammar and understanding of Noun Classes and how they relate to multiple languages as well as cutural norms that are important for me to learn as well. I am enjoying my language journey with her and look forward to our next lesson.

My classes with Awethu continue to be very effective. She is always well organized and brings so much understanding of the language to each lesson. She is able to relate very well to Native English speakers to help understand the differences in the structure of the Xhosa language. I look forward to continuing our lessons together!

It has been a wonderful experience learning with Awethu. I have made more progress within 5 lessons than I thought was possible. Her lessons are well planned out and she goes over and beyond to help me understand the language content. She includes visual aids as well as interesting history behind the words and culture so that the concepts go much deeper into your mind. A very talented teacher!
