Hi! Thanks for looking at my profile! I'm a native English speaker from London, England. I have a Masters degree in International Relations from Cambridge University and I've worked for a number of years as a diplomat and international trade negotiator for the British government.
I've lived in countries all over the world (including China, Russia, Italy, and others). I love learning new languages and, even more, I love helping other people to learn English!

I am a very friendly, kind and patient teacher. I know well from personal experience how difficult it can be to learn a new language and I will make sure you never feel bad about making mistakes when talking with me. I want you to relax and enjoy our lessons as much as possible :)
I enjoy talking about any and all topics, but I think I can especially help:
1. Adult learners with a general interest in international politics, history or economics.
2. Professionals who work in international jobs.

In conversation practice classes, we will focus on improving your general speaking fluency, accuracy and confidence. We can organise these lessons in any way you want. If there is a particular topic that interests you, I will find real-world materials (news articles, books, videos) about this topic for us to look at and discuss.
In my Business English and International Relations English classes, we will learn specialist vocabulary and practice discussing more complex topics. These classes will include weekly reading assignments, as well as optional opportunities for you to practice writing and giving presentations if that is helpful to you.Il mio materiale didattico

Hugh is an incredibly kind teacher. No matter what level you are at, he will work with you and help you to find your way to learning this language. And, he is one of the best tutors that I’ve encountered. Before him, I was struggling with my English speaking and writing as they were my weaker parts. One day I found him, and it changed my life forever. He is extremely patient and professional at all times. He helped me reach further since I started lessons on Italki. He will change your relationship with English.

It has been one and half month since I started having conversation practices with Hugh on a weekly basis. It is incredible but I feel already much more confident than before in using English in my everyday life (both at work and privately). Hugh's knowledge and his analytical skills are very impressive. We discussed topics relating for example to Culture, International Relationships, Psychology, History and Linguistics. The articles and videos that he choses for each lesson are of excellent quality and really stimulating. Every week I am literally looking forward to our next discussion. So, I recommend him very much.

I have been taking lessons with Hugh every week for the past two years. The conversation classes help me a lot to understand complex topics, to be updated on current affairs and to improve my language skills. Very interesting material each week. I can only recommend.

I am always very impressed about how much I learn from these English lessons. Not only because of the lessons themselves (which are great), but also thanks to all the tips that I get from Hugh every time: movies, podcasts, books, websites... very inspiring!
