Hello and welcome!
I’m Maaike, a 36-year-old from Belgium. I hold a Master’s degree in Criminology and spent three years working at an NGO. However, my adventurous spirit led me to travel with my partner, and we lived in Australia for a few years.
It was there that I discovered my love for teaching English. I found it incredibly fulfilling to help people who were struggling with the language in my spare time.
After taking a break to explore the beautiful landscapes of Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand, we returned to Europe. I noticed a growing interest in learning Flemish, so I decided to apply what I had learned from teaching English and expanded my focus to include Flemish as well.Che tipo di insegnante sono
° All ages and levels are welcome. I aim to provide a friendly, supportive, and understanding environment for all students, including those who are neurodiverse. I love connecting with people of all backgrounds, and I look forward to hearing your story!
° Mistakes are seen as opportunities for growth and learning.

At first, I just wanted to see how does italki work. I reserved a trial session with Maaike. She was so inspiring that I decided to continue learning. She gave me a good self confidence to speak. After each session I am always motivated in learning the language more, reading books, and talking in Flemish with my colleagues. Thank you Maaike!

Maaike is an incredible teacher and always makes me feel welcome in her classroom. She is always taking notes during the lesson to create more personalized lessons in the future that match both my interests and language level. She is very supportive and I'm always excited to have another lesson with her!

Could not recommend Maaike highly enough! She is easy to talk to, LGBTQIA+ friendly, lessons are planned well and enjoyable. I have learnt so much in such a short time.

Maaike is an amazing tutor! She is patient, makes you feel at ease and really takes the time to listen, without judgment, explain and help you out in your journey towards improved fluency :) I truly recommend her classes!
