こんにちは～🐼I’m Mei 🐼
I decided to become a Japanese teacher after reading NARUTO in high school (ask me the rest in class!) I’m a huge anime and manga otaku and love both classics and new series.
My lessons are for you if you:
Want to talk about anime/manga in Japanese
Feel nervous but want a teacher who speaks English
Are a beginner wanting to start from hiragana
Want grammar or pronunciation practice
Want sentence corrections with clear explanations
Or just want to chat in Japanese for fun!
About me:
From Kyoto, Studied in NZ & the US (5 years abroad).
I’ve taught more than 350 students, both online and at a school.

For three years, I taught at a Japanese language school accredited by the Ministry of Justice, where I managed four classes of about 20 students each. Since 2020, partly due to the pandemic, I have been teaching Japanese online. (I've had 2500＋ online lessons with 160 students in total!) With over 5 years of study-abroad experience and professional work using English, I can explain even subtle nuances and complex grammar points in English.

●みんなの日本語・げんき: Vocab list sent before each chapter. Homework included, with listening and grammar tests at the end.
●いろどり/まるごと: Focus on grammar and daily conversation in Japan.
●ひらがな・カタカナ :Fun apps to remember characters before starting lessons.
※Lessons are 90% in Japanese! Key phrases like“しゅくだい” (homework) are taught first.

Mei先生 made a study plan that fit my goals exactly and didn't just reuse premade materials. She was thoughtful, and made me feel good about my Japanese level. We spoke the entire time in Japanese and she spoke at the perfect level where I understood everything. It's clear she has experience teaching Japanese. She corrected my Japanese properly by repeating my sentences or asking questions that used the correct word order or a better choice of words. She's kind and encouraging, and I am excited to work with her to improve my Japanese!

Mei-san is incredibly helpful and fun to learn from! She always keeps things at a level I can understand and gives me the time I need to figure things out on my own, and help me when I don't understand. I look forward to many more lessons with her and recommend anyone who is wanting to learn Japanese in a fun and comfortable environment to do the same!

Mei-sensei was fantastic! I was really nervous about speaking, but she was encouraging, patient, and helpful with my many mistakes. We made a plan appropriate for my learning goals, and I'm looking forward to speaking with her again (and checking out the anime she recommended) 😊
