I’m Lancer, born and raised in Shanghai, China, and I moved to the U.S. about 15 years ago. I have an MBA and a Ph.D. in Foreign and Second Language Education, and I’ve always been passionate about helping people connect through language.
I absolutely love teaching Mandarin — it’s creative, dynamic, and full of surprises! My students often tell me my classes are fun, interactive, and go by way too fast. You’ll laugh, you’ll learn, and before you know it, you’ll be speaking Mandarin with confidence and ease.

I have over 15 years of experience teaching Mandarin and English to learners from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. As a native Mandarin speaker fluent in English, I make grammar, tones, and pronunciation easy to understand. I specialize in adult education and create student-centered lessons that develop all four language skills. I’ve taught students at every level—from complete beginners to advanced professionals—and also offer business Mandarin for workplace communication. Using interactive tools such as Google Slides, digital flashcards, authentic audios and videos, I make every class engaging and practical. Lancer is an excellent Mandarin teacher. She has an extensive knowledge of Chinese language and culture and makes every lesson interactive and engaging. She is also flexible and adapts her teaching to match your learning style. I have studied Mandarin on and off for several years, and her approach stands out. She focuses on both comprehensive input and character recognition, something I wish more professors emphasized. Because of this, I’m now able to form full sentences instead of just short phrases, and I can understand entire sentences rather than only picking out a word or two. Her lessons combine several tools including PowerPoint, visual aids, YouTube, Quizlet, and audio exercises, which keeps the learning process dynamic and practical. I’m grateful I found her and plan to continue taking lessons with her long term. I highly recommend!!
