If you're anything like me, you're here because the traditional classroom left you uninspired. Being lectured about endless grammar rules, drowning in specialized linguistic terminology, doing drill after drill while barely hearing and using the real language --- not only ineffective, but reminiscent of being trapped in a classroom where authority mattered more than curiosity and engagement. With over a decade's experience teaching both in university classrooms and online, I know what will help you progress, what will waste your time and how to avoid becoming disillusioned with the process. Oh, and you will "learn the rules", but unconsciously, not as the focus of the lesson.

In my classes, you'll hear and use the language from Day 1. You will be immersed in stories I've written and recorded just for you after evaluating your language level and learning about your interests. Within a few months, and even a few weeks, you will see results. Whether your goal is to feel closer to family through a heritage language, get to know places you travel to more deeply, follow natural conversations without feeling people speak too fast, or give presentations at work, I can help you.

We discuss stories that I've written, recorded and sent you. Each class is structured around a discussion of a short story, real-time listening practice, learning to answer questions succinctly at a natural conversational rhythm, with some time set aside for questions and feedback. While the focus is always on your progress, my classroom is a relaxed, friendly place. Learning should be exciting and inspiring, not yet another chore. French 801 (Autumn 2011) is teacher training, and 2 French 8303 apprenticeships are noted in Autumn 2013 &2014. You can see the titles of the courses on the transcript as well as the grades.

Altro - French Cultural Studies InstituteParticipated in biennial invitation-only 2-month workshop for 25 professors and advanced doctoral students in French studies. Attended meetings & lectures on the theme of "La politique et le politique" as well as pedagogy workshops. Created syllabus on voyeurism and voyage in 18th- and 19th-century literature. Fully sponsored by my home department.

Graduate Teaching AssociateI have been teaching as an instructor in the Department of French and Italian since I began my graduate studies at Ohio State University in 2011. I have been the sole, independent instructor of basic language classes as well as intermediate cultural classes in literature, cinema, and culture. I have taught all levels of the introductory French sequence for beginners and I have taught accelerated summer classes for four years, a competitive position, contingent on excellent student evaluations.

I've trialed a few Spanish teachers and the one I keep going back to is Guyomar, she is honestly one of the best. She is always punctual and prepared for each lesson. Her lessons go through different themes as well as language concepts so I am expanding my vocabulary but she also gives suggestions on different authors, podcasts, and videos to enjoy in your spare time. She picks up the patterns of my mistakes and addresses them. The lessons are immersed in the language I'm learning and she is always encouraging conversations to push my language skills. Her lessons are very detailed, easy to follow, and productive. Moreover, she's very fun to talk to so I look forward to every lesson. I highly recommend her!

Si vous n'ai jamais pris une leçon avec Guyomar, je vous recommande de prendre "French through Storytelling and Comprehensible Input". après avoir fini plusieurs de leçons, vous seriez rendu compte que comment vous améliorer ton français. Hands down!

I've made it to the end of my third package with Guyomar, and I've truly enjoyed working with her all the way. Her creative and meticulously prepared lessons, which are always tailored to her students' levels and personal interests, have helped me progress from a beginning self-study learner, hardly able to function in my new Francophone environment, to a more confident and versatile speaker able to do some professional work in the language. Now I'm in a position to think about getting a French-language certification, which is not a point I've reached with any previous foreign language I've studied.
