I'm Yongbin, a native speaker and tutor of three Chinese languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, and Teochew.
Born and raised in China, I have explored 45 countries and immersed myself in learning over 20 languages. My teaching style is fun, engaging, and patient, ensuring an enjoyable learning experience.
I’m passionate about traveling ✈️, writing ✍️, reading 📚, photography 📷, music 🎵, and watching movies and anime 🎬.
📖 I hold an MA in Sociology from one of China's top universities and a BA in Japanese.
I have been teaching Chinese for 13 years, serving as a language guide and tutor rather than a traditional school teacher. My approach encourages you to engage in speaking and organizing language independently and actively.
🏆 With diverse work experience in finance, education, journalism, and tourism—and a decade of collaboration with a Nobel Laureate —I bring more than just language instruction to my classes.
Please note: I need a 5-min break between classes.
So, 30-min class = 25 min, 60-min class = 55 min.
HOW will we learn?
✅ In each class, we will cover 1–3 grammar structures and learn 10–15 new vocabulary words.
✅ We’ll follow the structure of HSK, but we won’t rely on reading the textbook.
✅ The focus will be on conversation, with dialogues and materials we create together.
✅ Let’s keep it practical: we’re learning to communicate, not to become linguists.
✅ Understanding Chinese characters will be part of our strategy to enhance your learning efficiency.

It's a pleasure taking lessons with Yongbin. He comes prepared, but is flexible to cover adjacent vocabulary relevant to my life and the topic at hand. Every class has a bit of review of past material and new material building on prior knowledge.
The lessons are engaging, and Yongbin takes notes of new vocab as the class progresses, creating slides that he shares immediately after the lesson.
The atmosphere is friendly, personable and the time just flies by. I'm looking forward to continuing my learning voyage with Yongbin.

I really enjoy taking Chinese classes with Yongbin. His lessons are fun and engaging. He constantly encourages me to speak and create lively conversation. When I struggle to express something, he patiently helps me to find a way to say it and writes the new words so I can review them after class. I'm really glad I started learning with him.

Yongbin is an awesome teacher! He challenged me to speak more of the language than I ever have and was super cheerful and patient throughout my stumbling. He is very efficient in his use of class time. I hope to keep learning with him
